 Portugal is a country in the south-west of Europe. The Atlantic Ocean is on its west and south, and Spain is on its north and east.
Three groups of islands in the Atlantic Ocean are also part of Portugal: the Azores (Açores), the Madeira and the Savage Isles (Ilhas Selvagens). The Savage Isles are a small group of islands with nobody on them, controlled by Madeira.
Drenched in sunshine at the southernmost tip of Portugal, the Algarve has become one of the most sought-after locations for British and Irish people buying abroad, almost all of them looking for, and invariably finding, an unhurried yet sophisticated way of life.
